Emmanuel (Manolis) Riginos monogram
Calliope (Pitsa) Iliades-Riginos monogram
In this special photo Manolis Riginos is all dressed-up! Probably taken before his return to Greece from his immigrant years in the USA.
Calliope Iliades here at age 19!
In this photo of 1939, my dad’s car bears US license plates. Was it taken in the States or in Greece just after his arrival? Manolis is in his bathing suit. It could also be in Loutraki.
Here Pitsa as a young maiden, fashionably dressed in front of the Dr. Emmanuel C. Iliades family house door in Vathy, Samos, ca. 1928.
Emmanuel here as a successful businessman ca. 1940’s
This is how the Riginos Brothers started their business in the electric appliances sector. At the time of the first radio sets being imported to Greece there was not even a Greek Broadcasting operation in existence! In order to demonstrate SW radio reception, the RIGINOS BROTHERS were visiting potential customers homes at night, when reception was less cluttered by static, tuning to stations from Italy, Germany and the BBC! The Atwater Kent Manufacturing Co. closed in 1936 after a Union Workers strike. At about that time Emmanuel Riginos became the sole representative of General Electric Co.
Emmanuel’s Ford bearing the Atwater Kent logo on the doors has broken down ca. 1939. The stress is evident on the faces but also the determination and drive of young Manolis to get things straightened out! On the right is his younger brother George Riginos.
Manolis Riginos (left) and his brother George in front of the GE showroom at 9, Paparigopoulou St., Athens. The old pick-up truck was used by the company then named “ELLINIKI ILEKTRIKI & RADIOPHONIKI ETAIREIA” (Hellenic Electric & Radiophone Co.).
